A WORTHY CAUSE: CHRISTMAS EVE TEA PARTY
December 2015 was spent in Harare, Zimbabwe and we were so excited to partner with some awesome suppliers and host a Christmas Eve cake and tea party for the orphans housed at Mathew Rusike Children’s Home.
The home is situated in Epworth in the south-eastern part of Harare, and Epworth is well known for its large and striking balancing rocks, formations of natural occurrence that appear in a perfectly balanced state without any support.
The children’s home was founded in 1968 and cares for about 145 children on site, and over 200 orphaned and vulnerable children through its nationwide community outreach programme.
Celebrations on Christmas Eve began just before midday and involved various musicians that performed awesome songs and dance for the children, a motivational speaker encouraging the children to dream big and reminding them that they are loved and are destined for greatness, Father Christmas handing out beautifully wrapped packages, a clown that brought laughter to the children and other entertainment such as jumping castles.
It wouldn’t be a tea party without a sweet tasting cake to enjoy.
The tablescape put together for the children featured mini candy sweet bottles, freshly popped popcorn, marshmallows, biscuits, home baked muffins and other sweet treats. The children certainly had an amazing time and there is absolutely no price one can place on the happy faces shown on the day.
