CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX DRIVE

by | Nov 2, 2015 | Corporate Social Investment

As we celebrate Christmas during the December period, we are well aware that December is also a popular month for weddings. Wedding Friends is a South African wedding blog that was established in 2012 and amongst other things, its website features a directory of various wedding vendors it refers to as service partners that are situated in South Africa and Internationally (the “Wedding Friends Suppliers”).

For this year’s Christmas celebrations, Wedding Friends supported the Vuka Nomtobyi Orphanage situated in Langa which is a suburb found in Cape Town, South Africa. Wedding Friends called upon the Wedding Friends Suppliers to sponsor shoebox hampers for the underprivileged children at this orphanage and their goal was to collect 100 boxes that would guarantee at least 100 precious smiles.

We at Something Me were naturally excited with this call as our charities of choice are organisations that focus on vulnerable children. Not long ago, we had assisted with styling a Hello Kitty themed party, and the birthday presents that were given at this party were meant to be donated to charity. Seeing as no orphanage had been identified as yet, we quickly put together some shoe boxes filled with the presents in addition to contributions of previously loved clothes and shoes in support of this drive.

We are glad that the Christmas goodies shared contributed to the happiness of some children. Click here  to view pictures of Wedding Friends Christmas celebration with the angels at the orphanage.

People in orphanages did not choose to be there, but fortunately you have the choice of making a positive impact in their lives.”
